Re: REMINIDER - CQ World Wide RTTY DX Contest starting tomorrow

Hi Dick, sound good.  RTTY has much more human involvement compared to those FT modes.

I am using MMTTY with WriteLog ($30/year for subscription).  If you prefer the freeware, you need to start learning N1MM+ that is already interfaced with MMTTY.  So sending the contest exchange and logging the QSO will become much easier.

I have been #2 in Texas SOLP category in last 2 years with 500 plus QSO’s.  I could not hit 500+ this year due to luck of EU and JA QSO’s.  The greatest thing is I can do this with 100Watts and dipole/vertical.  I want to see more contest activities in Richardson like ’70 and ’80.

Seems your attic antenna is working.  You just need to push yourself harder.  I made my first 350 QSO’s in the first 10 hours or so.

See you in the TEST.  73 de Jon NN5T

Jon,

I spent time this weekend setting up my station for RTTY and I finally got the settings enough right to decode RTTY and I made 21 QSOs!

I still have to read the MMTY manual and get better acquainted with all the options and buttons. It was fun learning a new digital mode for me. It was one of my goals for 2019 to learn to use RTTY!

Your 492 QSOs is impressive. You should qualify for an award somehow this year from CQ Magazine.

The external battery is 19aH and the internal batteries are 12aH (total), yielding 31aH. All of the batteries are aging though; the 19aH is a John West special from ~5 years ago at the DARC, and it was surplus when he got it.

Ian, I like your approach. Let's give that a try and if it doesn't make it through a weekend we'll look buying something new.

The reading Phil saw (12aH) was what the charger sourced to the batteries, meaning they are pulling far less than the 31 theoretical amp-hours. The whole thing pulls around an amp when transmitting, and I think ~0.45A when idling.

Really though, how many are going to go fox hunting after midnight?

If we need to kick in a few $$ for the replacement batteries, hit me up at the meeting.  It’s worth it to me to have it live until Sunday.  Thanks,

It looks like the batteries are getting weaker every week. I'll put together a new string of batteries for next weekend.

The fox appears to be asleep this morning (Sunday 9:30a) – does anyone else still hear any fox noises?

My original location required five minutes walking but no easy parking so I abandoned it for now.  This is a really easy location so if you’re on the fence about fox hunting this is one to try.

What is the preferred amp hour rating?  I didn't look at the one on the fox closely but it is somewhere in the 12ah range?
